Rebates

1. Solar Homes and Communities Plan – Federal Government
The Solar Homes and Communities Plan (SHCP) rebate for homes provides cash rebates for the installation of new solar electricity systems on homes and community use buildings.

Please note: from 14 May 2008, this rebate is now means-tested and only available to home owner-occupiers with a combined household income of less than $100,000. For more information, read the guidelines available on the SHCP website or call 1800 808 571 (Australia only).

Rebates are also available for new extensions to existing home systems that have not previously received rebates. You must receive written pre-approval from the Australian Greenhouse Office for your application. Homeowners can receive up to $8,000 rebate for a new solar home system - $8/watt capped at $8,000 for systems with a minimum size of 450W. Homeowners are also eligible for up to $5,000 rebate for a new extension to an existing solar system - $5/watt for systems with a minimum size of 450W.

Community use buildings can receive up to 50% of the cost of a new 2kW solar system, where there is deemed to be significant educational value.

2. Remote Renewable Power Generation Programme (RRPGP) – Federal Government
The Federal Government's Renewable Remote Power Generation Programme (RRPGP) provides financial support to increase the use of renewable generation in remote parts of Australia that presently rely on fossil fuel for electricity supply. Rebates of up to 50% of eligible system cost, capped at $200,000, are available for homes and medium-scale installations. Rebates of up to 50% of eligible system cost, minimum rebate amount of $200,000, are available for large scale solar installations. In addition, rebates for solar water pumping systems are available under this programme. Rebates of up to 40% of eligible system cost minus $1,000 (capped at $30,000) are available for solar water pumping systems.

3. National Solar Schools Program
National Solar Schools offers grants of up to $50,000 (GST exclusive) to install solar and other renewable power systems, solar hot water systems, rainwater tanks and a range of energy efficiency measures.
