Powering Remote Homes
The sheer size of Australia means that we have an abundance of homes in areas which are too far from the grid. In addition to that we experience that a lot of new homes are built with the intention of being purely powered by solar power.
The massive drop in cost for solar modules and peripheral components will make this an economically viable option for lots of remote households.
We at Solarmatrix have an in-depth knowledge of how to approach the design a customised solar power system for household applications. The magic for us is not in selling an off-the shelf system design and products but to understand the customers’ needs, explain the intricacies of a solar power system and select products which are sized to meet the current demand and allow expansion in the future.
We are passionate about this area of our work and most people who have experienced our way of delivering a system for remote areas will understand why Solarmatrix is highly regarded in this area.

PROJECT BRIEF 1
5.6 kWp solar system for a Remote House – Boyup Brook, WA
Solarmatrix has designed a solar system for a beautiful house in the southwest of Western Australia. The large house is intended to be used as a home, office and future B&B operation. As such the design task was to cater for the current need and allow for sufficient scope to grow as the household as well as business grows.
Our product selection included sophisticated inverter technology, high quality German solar modules and locally manufactured batteries. Since its installation in 2006 the customer never had to run the diesel generator which he keeps for emergency situations.

PROJECT BRIEF 2
12 kWp solar system for a Remote House – Broome, WA
The tropical hot climate in Broome required a solar power system which can cope with a continuous load of an airconditioner for one household (in addition to all other essential power requirements). A second house on the same property which was used as a holiday home was planned to be connected to the same power systems and needed to be incorporated into the design.
We have designed a solar power system which was installed by the client himself with utmost perfection. Looking at the roof of the shed one could think that the shed was actually purpose built to accommodate this solar array.
Since its installation in mid 2011 the customer has not used a single litre of diesel which until then was running on a daily basis. To safeguard himself from having a flat starter battery on the generator the client has connected a small solar panel to trickle charge the battery and ensure that the genset can be started even after long non-operational periods.
The roof mounting array was designed to withstand cyclonic weather conditions and Australian engineered aluminium frames have been used to fix to the roof structure.
As batteries we have used sealed maintenance-free Sonnenschein cells as the customer preferred not to fiddle around with distilled water and check electrolyte levels on a regular basis.
